Great Meeting & Great Malbec

Cheers !

Another great virtual meeting with a great Malbec chosen by Alan.

Kevin kindly provided and challenged us with a general knowledge quiz. The quiz is set to become a regular feature with the overall winner receiving a prize at the end of lockdown – when we can meet in person.

Next week the wine is to be chosen by Wayne, which is a challenge after Alan’s high scoring Malbec.

Virtual Meetings

Today the society held its second virtual meeting, which was a huge success.

So much so, that we have decided that during lockdown we will hold virtual meetings EVERY Friday evening. The meetings not only help us enjoy the chosen wine (more details below) but it helps continue and strengthen the social bonds that we enjoy, and quite frankly, deal with the stresses and strains of the very necessary lockdown.

In short – It’s good to talk!

The society has adjusted the meetings to suit the restrictions of lockdown:

The wine for the evening is chosen by a nominated member and each member acquires the chosen wine. In practice this is done to comply completely with the lockdown regulations and minimise travel and contacts. We then meet virtually, taste and discuss the wine, along with numerous other topics.

Although it’s not quite as good as our in person meetings at the Ponthir Village Hall it helps us all keep in contact and to stay as sane as we possibly can be in the current circumstances.

Supporting South Africa’s Wine Producers

This evening we supported our South African wine producing friends.
As part of South Africa’s response to Coronavirus/Covid-19 the sale of alcohol has been banned in the country. This means that South Africa’s vineyards and wine producers are solely reliant on exports.
So, we all brought South African wines to let our friends there, know that we are thinking of them and doing what we can to support them in these challenging times.
Keep safe wherever in the world you may be!

We Are Back !

The society met this evening (Friday 7th August) for the first time since our meetings were suspended on Friday 13th March due to the risks of the Corona Virus/Covid-19.
With eight members and one guest in attendance we had a fantastic reunion. With appropriate safety measures in place we enjoyed some outstanding wines and the company of great friends, some of whom we had not seen for far too long.
We are looking forward to the meetings in the months to come.

Meetings Suspended

The safety of our members, their family and friends and the wider community is our utmost priority.

The Society has therefore made the difficult but responsible decision to suspend all future meetings until further notice due to Coronavirus / COVID-19 pandemic.

Fantastic Meeting and Wines

The most popular wine of the evening scoring 18 points.

Friday 13 March turned out to be very lucky for the members of the New Fosse Wine Society.

All the wines were popular with the society, scoring well above average, with the most popular wine scoring 18 out of a possible 20 ! To celebrate such a stunning evening of wines the members toasted the evening’s success with a glass of port 🍷

Big thank you to Wayne for bringing along an excellent wine and sanitiser for the table and chairs and for our wine holders/hands. A very sensible precaution to help keep us safe in the current situation.

Another successful evening.
