Craig and Stuart Return

Craig and Stuart Return

After an all too long absence for Craig (Rally) and Stuart (Holiday) the society met again to celebrate the joys of good wine and good company.

We all enjoyed a variety of wines from all over the world and in particular a white Argentinian Trivento Malbec and a Jacobs Creek, Barossa Valley Shiraz. The most popular wine of the evening being the Jacobs Creek, Shiraz brought by our President Dave – Thank you Dave. A big thank you should also go to our Chairman’s wife, Tracey, for selecting the Trivento white Malbec for him. One of the most popular white wines the society has had the pleasure of sampling.

The evening concluded with two bottles of Port courtesy of Craig B. Another fantastic evening!

Welcome Chris

Welcome Chris

This evening’s meeting saw 9 members enjoy wines from around the world. Three of those were very well received and well chilled white wines which complimented the very warm weather. The most popular wine of the evening was provided by our Chairman Dai who also kindly supplied some portable air conditioning.

We were joined a little later in the evening by our President, Dave Llewellyn and his guest visitor Chris Evans. A great evening with some very fine wines and a Cockburn’s Special Reserve Port to conclude the evening’s proceedings.

Mateus Rosé

Mateus Rosé

This week’s meeting was attended by 8 members who enjoyed an Indian takeaway accompanied by a Mateus Rosé. All agreed that the Rosé was a great wine to accompany the curry. The curry and Rosé was followed by a Reisling courtesy of our President Dave. The most popular wine of the evening was a Santedano Negremaro from our secretary Jim scoring a very respectable 15.

The evening finished with a glass of Cockburns Ruby Soho Port direct from Portugal courtesy of Talbot.

Thank You Mr President

A massive thank you Mr President for the fabulous port glasses for the society. They will no doubt get plenty of use.

Another fantastic evening for the eight members in attendance. (Craig is behind the camera). A really good spread of interesting wines and a big thank you to President Dave for the nice port glasses. The most popular wine on the night was brought by our treasurer Wayne which was a Brick Mason 15% Blended from USA scoring a respected 15. A special thanks also to Craig for his very generous donation of 2! Bottles of port which we enjoyed immensely.

The port glasses are already being put to good use 🙂

The Fab Five

The Fab Five … someone has to take the photograph 🙂

Friday’s meeting saw 5 members in attendance with 6 members away with commitments, or ill. The theme for the evening was – Wines you like for under £7.

The most popular wine scoring 15 was “The Best” (South African) 14% Shiraz.

The raffle prize donated by our Treasurer, Wayne – The Comeback King (Wine), was won by? Yes you’ve guessed it Alan Edwards, his third win. Our Chairman, Dai, kindly donated a lovely bottle of Cockburns Ruby Port which was enjoyed by all. A fantastic evening !

Take That

This evening’s meeting saw seven members get together for a meeting that took us all back to the 1990’s thank’s to our Chairman, Dai Coleman…

Dai, delighted us with a bottle of “Gary Barlows” finest…which of course brought on numerous puns..

Could it be magic? Back for good. I’ll leave you to fill in the rest of the song titles.

The most popular wine of the evening was shared with us by our Treasurer, Wayne, a Chronic Cellars, Purple Paradise, Zinfandel, scoring a very creditable 14.

The raffle prizes (all three) were supplied by Stuart, and the first prize went to… Stuart. Second to our Chairman, Dai and finally, the third prize to our Web Master, Talbot.

Everyone had a fantastic evening with lots of laughter and good wine… Cheers.

Late Arrival

This evenings meeting saw 7 members enjoy 7 outstanding wines from all over the world.

And then… the late arrival of our Treasurer and Social Secretary, Wayne, saw him share with us the joint most popular wine of the evening, together with the wine from our Secretary Jim. Wayne brought a Villarissa Grand Reserva, from the Douro area of Portugal and Jim shared with us a Santa Magdalena Balduzzi. So, by the end of the night it was in fact 8 wines enjoyed by 8 members.

The more observant of you may notice that there are in fact 9 empty wine bottles. The bottle of Jam Shed was in fact a decoy. Our Chairman, Dai Coleman, placed the contents of another bottle into the Jam Shed bottle. This caused some confusion when the reveal of the supposed “Jam Shed” took place. It then caused much laughter when we were told we had all been pranked by Dai.

The evenings raffle prize was donated by Talbot, a bottle of Port and Stilton, which was won by, drum roll please …

Alan, who won the raffle at our last meeting. Alan kindly shared the Port which brought the meeting to pleasant close.

Waynes Wines

This evening saw an unusual theme for the 8 members and 1 guest in attendance. The theme was…

“Wines that Wayne would like.”

The theme was suggested by our Chairman, Dai Coleman, to acknowledge and thank Wayne for all the work he does getting the room ready for our meetings, clearing up and washing the glasses ready for the next meeting. The theme meant that we enjoyed wines with strong forthright tastes and quite high alcohol content – due to the very nature of such wines generally being more mature wines.

Here are the wines of the night, with the most popular wine being a Vino de Italia Grande Alberone, Zinfandel courtesy of our scribe, Kevin. Pictured on the right.

The raffle prize was donated by Alan Edwards and won by …. drum role please… Alan Edwards. But we all enjoyed a share of the prize! Cheers Alan and well done!

There was however some confusion about who had brought which wine. Naturally you would expect the central figure of the evening to know which wine was was his. That was not the case. So just in case this person is in any doubt. Here is the wine YOU brought to the evening…

Wine Bottle Gavel

A great night at the New Fosse Wine Society with 7 members and Ians Guest Stuart enjoyed wines from around the world. The most popular wine of the night was The Big Juicy @ 15.5% ABV. Provided by our Chairman Dai Coleman. An additional bottle was provided by Craig Drew – Malamado at 18% ABV Fortified Melbac from Argentina The raffle prize was provided by our Secretary Jim Pilgrim and duly won by our guest Stuart.- Who drew his own ticket.

Our Chairman Mr Coleman provided the society with a Wine Bottle Gavel to assist with the smooth running of the society meetings. The Gavel was made by his own hands.
