Six Of The Best

With 6 members and 1 guest in attendance, all present enjoyed 8 different wines. We had a Romanian wine as well as a Solomonar Reserve and a Botham 79 Malbec. The most popular of the evening though being an Apothic Dark 2015 provided by the society President, Dave, scoring a very fine 15.

Our Secretary, Jim, provided a fine bottle of Port, which was gratefully enjoyed by all including our returning guest Stuart.

Aluado

Another great evening with wines from Europe, South Africa, Australia and Lebanon. Th most popular of the evening being a Aluado, Alicante Bouschet from Portugal courtesy of Kevin. The word “Aluado” translating as “loony”.

After some very fine wines the evening was brought to a close with a glass or two of Port courtesy of the society’s President Dave and our scribe Kevin.

Port Glasses

A very big “Thank You” to our President, Dave Llewellyn for presenting the society with Port glasses engraved with the society’s name. This will enable us to carry on, in style, with our latest tradition of finishing each meeting with a glass of Port.

Before enjoying the Port the society enjoyed a fine collection of wines. The most popular wine was provided by our Secretary, Jim, a Montgrasi Reserva scoring a well deserved 15.

Animals and Wine

At this evenings meeting the members enjoyed the company of a guest, Mark Pritchard, and a themed evening for the first time in several meetings.

The theme? “Wines with a name or label featuring an animal”

Our guest enjoyed the wines selected by the members and the very fine Port provided by our Treasurer and Social Secretary Wayne. Thank you Wayne for the Port and again for setting up the room in the safest possible manner for us. Just in case you’re wondering… the glass in the forefront of the picture is a Port Sipper. The best way to enjoy a fine Port!

Society AGM

Friday 13th August saw the New Fosse Wine Society hold their Annual General Meeting.

All of the offices remained in the safe hands of their long standing incumbents.

Our officials are:

President: Dave Llewellyn

Chairman: Dai Coleman

Secretary: Jim Pilgrim

Treasure and Social Secretary: Wayne Jones

Meetings Scribe/Wine Recorder: Kevin Powell

After dealing with the Society’s administrative tasks our members went on to enjoy some excellent wines and a bottle of Jam Shed. The next society meeting has a theme for the members to follow:

“Wines with name or label featuring an animal.”

A fine selection of wines to lubricate the workings of the AGM

Thank You Ian

Cheers Ian !
Thank You Ian

Another fabulous evening sampling wines from all over Europe and … a wine from Lebanon! Thank you to our Treasurer and Social Secretary Wayne for giving us the opportunity to enjoy a wine from a country that has never before been our pleasure to sample.

Although one of our members could not be with us in person he was with us in spirit – he gave us a very fine bottle of ruby port to provide a grand finish to the evening.

Thank you Ian!

Free Choice

Free Choice

With all of the society members in attendance we enjoyed a “Free Choice” evening where we all brought a wine of our choosing! A “Free Choice”

We thoroughly enjoyed wines from all over Europe and our President, Dave, shared with us an Apothic Inferno red wine from California. This is a wine that he has shared with us in the past. A delicious wine but with an alcohol content of 16%, it’s not for the faint hearted.

With several wines enjoying high and even marks we decided that our next meeting would again be “Free Choice”. Look forward to seeing you all in two weeks time.

A massive thank you to Wayne for cleaning and setting up the room at the break of dawn before travelling to London and back to join us for the evenings frivolities.

Mediterranean Wines

A grand selection of “Mediterranean Wines”

This evenings meeting enjoyed a themed wine selection – “Wines from countries which have a coastline with the Mediterranean Sea.”

Members brought a superb selection of wines from France, Spain and Italy, with one being a white wine, a Chardonnay from the Chablis region of France. The red wine selection was undoubtedly the most popular though. To add to a an evening of very fine wines our President, Dave, kindly brought a fine bottle of Port! Thank you Dave.

Big thank you again to Wayne for the deep cleaning and safety enhancing layout of the room.

Welcome Back Hywel

Welcome Back Hywel

A big welcome back to Hywel, a returning guest of our secretary Jim.

Another great evening enjoying the wines of the world and in particular the wines of Portugal, which seem to dominate both the society and our favourite wine suppliers. All of the wines received favourable reviews from the members rating very highly across the board, particularly the Portuguese wines.

The photograph tells its own story of the wines chosen and the precautions taken by the members for tonights meeting. A big thank you to Wayne for deep cleaning the room prior to the meeting and setting out the seating in a manner that allows us to enjoy each others company in the safest and most compliant manner possible.

Welcome Stuart

Another fantastic evening with a new guest to the society and a new theme of “wines you’ve never tasted” chosen by our Chairman, Dai.

A big thank you to Wayne for deep cleaning the room and for the very fine port that rounded off another great meeting.
