The 6 sex God’s met last night for an Italian themed evening. Enjoying wines from around Italy 🇮🇹. The most popular wine (Pillastro – Primitivo) was supplied by our chairman, Jim, scoring a very respectable 14.17. Fantastic hand stretched pizzas 🍕 were supplied by Farina Pizzeria.

At this weeks meeting we undertook an experiment on the virtues of decanting wine. The opinion on the benefits of decanting wine have always been a contentious topic. Courtesy of our President, Dave Llewellyn, we put it to the test with two bottles of Wollemi Shiraz from South Eastern Australia. The first bottle had been decanted an hour or two before being sampled, the second was opened immediately before being drunk

The decanted wine scored a very respectable 14 overall and the wine that had not been decanted scored 12.5. The decanted bottle of Wollemi was the most popular wine of the evening. The comments on aroma and taste were very much in favour of the decanted wine. See the details here …

Famous Five

This weeks meeting saw 5 members enjoying wines from Spain, France, Italy and Australia. Followed by glass of Port, with a choice of Ruby or Tawny. The most popular wine of the evening was an Australian Koolibura Shiraz from the Barossa Valley, courtesy of Craig, which scored an outstanding 15. The French Merlot, a Reserver Pierre, courtesy of Stuart, surprised everyone. Nobody assessed it as be a French wine and it scored a very creditable 13.2.

Another fantastic evening for the Society. We celebrated Talbot’s birthday with some excellent wine and port. Wayne provided an outstanding cheese board and birthday cake for the members to help celebrate.

We enjoyed wines from Europe, Australia and South Africa. The most popular wine of the evening was a Hardy’s Stamp, cabernet shiraz courtesy of our President Dave which scored a very respectable 13.67. It was also a wine of excellent value, with an average price of £5.00

Stuart and Tony kindly provided additional bottles of wine for the members present at the meeting to sample and enjoy. A full and detailed list of the wines can be found here…

This weeks meeting enjoyed the literary talents of our President, Dave Llewellyn. Between each bottle sampled by the six members and one guest, Dave read out one of his own poems. They were entertaining and meaningful.

There was a good selection of wines from Europe and South Africa. The most popular wine of the evening was a Collezione Cinquanta from Italy courtesy of Craig, which scored a well deserved 13.71. The America’s

This weeks meeting saw us enjoy a themed evening with wines from the American continent. Seven members in attendance with our first time guest visit from Stuart John. The two most popular wines of the evening were a Casillero del Diablo Concha y Toro being a blend of Syrah and Malbec, courtesy of Dave Llewellyn and The Wanderer Malbec courtesy of the guest wine on behalf of Stuart John. Both wines scored a very respectable 13.38

This weeks meeting was a “Free Choice” and saw wines from all over the world sampled by the society, including a first for us – Sake.

The most popular wine of the evening was however, an Italian Zinfandel from the region of Puglia from the Wanted Zin producer, courtesy of Neale scoring a very respectable 14.11. The Sake did not fair so well with a score of just 9, which we think is the lowest score given to a wine at the society. Sake courtesy of Talbot. Six of the best, the Savvy Six, attended. With the most popular wine supplied by our President Dave Llewellyn. A Monastrall Petit Verdot from Aldi, scoring a very respectable 14.5. Port was supplied, courtesy of Wayne and Stuart. The now society tradition of Maltesers, were supplied by Wayne. Jim was presented with a bottle of wine by our President Dave. Jim could not resist giving it a cuddle. See below!

Rumour has it that this is the only time he’s given anything a cuddle.

Rosé Rules!

This evening’s meeting enjoyed a Rosé wine theme, accompanied by a fine Indian Cuisine themed meal courtesy of the Saffron Kitchen.

The two most popular wines of the evening were a French Atlantique and an Australian, Barossa Rosé courtesy of Neale and our secretary Wayne, respectively, both scoring a very respectable 13.17. The Rosé’s were well received and were an excellent accompaniment to the meal.

The next meeting on Friday 9th June is “free choice”.
