Ode to Wine

Ode to Wine

I meet up with friends at Ponthir village Hall
We are known as the New Fosse wine society
We all Meet up once every two weeks
And we have abandoned all hope of sobriety

We carefully select some wine in advance
And produce a fact sheet on the one we bringing
Different grapes from different countries to try
Taking part is important, don’t care about winning

We carefully taste a small drop of the wine
We talk about the smell and the taste
There are no buckets We don’t spit it out
We are all a bit frugal and can’t abide waste

We take it seriously and score all the wine
We make the effort to become educated
And we learn about all the different grapes
despite the occasional risk of getting inebriated

Wayne works hard to get the hall ready
For when we turn up on a Friday night
Provides paper and pen plus a bottle of water
Others bring port, for a finish just right.
